Cursed
by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Goodreads Author)
Dying sucks--and high
school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car
accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember
touches dies. And that, well, really blows. Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out. However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't?
But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not've been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.
My Rating
[2 of 5 stars]
For JLA this is so...average.
I never could fully get into the story,
which maybe the reason for me taking so long to finish it.
I mean, I had my doubts when I learned what the book was about.
I don't really get into the whole TOUCH OF DEATH thing.
But, I thought, if anyone could turn me into a fan, it's JLA.
Um...I was disappointed.
The TOUCH OF DEATH still isn't my thing. It's rather...BLAH.
Not interesting to me.
So, anyway, I didn't see the usual spunk in Ember that I did in all JLA's other female characters. I couldn't connect with her at all. I understand that bad things have to happen to the characters for them to be relatable and liked but man, Ember's life SUCKED. I was miserable reading about her miserable life. She lacked self-confidence. She lacked...a lot. I wish we would have gotten to know the Ember before the TOUCH OF DEATH to understand her more and how much her life has drastically changed. No, it was all one constant messed up, dreary speed throughout the whole book. Ember was BLAH.
Moving on...
Hayden. I liked him but there wasn't anything spectacular about him. He was sweet and kind and mysterious and apparently, really hot but...He's no Daemon, Chase, Chad, or Seth. Hayden was BLAH.
See a theme here?
Yeah, you got it. BLAH.
Still a fan of JLA.
Will always be a fan
but Cursed just didn't give me
that excitement her books usually give me.
Off to read Elixir...Maybe I'll find it there?
