by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Goodreads Author)
No one is like Daemon Black. When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
*TRYING TO CALM DOWN*
God. Wtf, Jenn? My emotions are haywire now.
I don't even think I can speak right now about the rest of the book, the beginning (a bit slow) and the middle (way better), with that freaking ENDING just...it's taken over my brain. I'm frazzled!
Like, I just felt like turning into Hurricane Stormy and taking out everything in my room.
I pictured myself drop kicking something (idk maybe my closet door?) but as I went to stand, my muscles locked up and screamed at me for the hours of disuse I put them through while I was
God. If I thought Daemon couldn't get any better, I was dead fucking wrong. Daemon is amazing, sexy, romantic, and abso-fucking-lutely perfect. He tops perfect like a shiny red cherry on top. (<--- So sad that this comment will only add to his huge ego)
Katy was awesome! She's taking the brunt of everyone's anger over what happened at the end of the last book and she spends the whole book of Opal trying to make up for it because she feels like it's her fault. She's a fighter now. I like that she's all about being in the action and not letting protective ass Daemon talk her down. She won many arguments against Daemon. How the hell do you defeat Daemon? I don't freakin' know but she did it. It's just Daemon's weakness for Kittens, I guess.
Blake is the grimy asswipe I always believed him to be. (<--- Daemon should so give me a cookie for saying this)
As for that ending I was raving about,
It sucked-sucked worse than people who pirated books, sucked more than a year for the next book in a beloved series, and sucked more than a brutal cliffhanger ending.”
Only Jenn would say something about cliffhangers sucking not even 30 pages before she hits us with the MOTHER OF ALL CLIFFHANGERS. *huffs*
I'm going to fill up the last part of this review with Daemon quotes because you already know I loved Opal and you know why (Daemon) so, what more could you want from me? You're not getting spoilers. he he.
“You better, because there is punishment for breaking the rules.”
“And what kind of punishment would that be?”
Daemon chuckled. “Probably the sort of punishment you’d enjoy.”
“A slow, wry smile teased Daemon’s lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with."
Annoyance flared deep inside me. "Don’t start with me, jerk-face.”
“You haven't been smiling much. I missed it, so I decided to reward you for doing it." "Reward me?" I laughed. "God, only you would think kissing someone is a reward." "You know it is. My lips change lives, baby.”
“Kitten..." "Don't Kitten me." I scowled, on a roll now. "You left around five or so and didn't get back till when? Past two in the morning? What were you guys doing? And get that stupid smile off your face. This isn't funny." Daemon tried to get rid of the smile but failed. "I love when your claws come out.”
“There was a pause, then his lips stretched into a smile. "You're right."
Hell froze over. Pigs were flying. "Come again?"
"You're right. I should have checked in at some point. I'm sorry."
The world was flat. I didn't know what to say. According to Daemon, he was right about 99 percent of the time. Wow.”
“Daemon spoke in his language. The lyrical quality of his words made no sense to me.
“What did you say?” I asked.
“There’s really no translation for it,” he said, “but the closest human words would be, you are beautiful to me.”
“Slowly he looked at me, and then he bent down, planting his lips on mine. The kiss was unexpected—deep and forceful. Stunned I just stood there as he pulled back, nipping at my bottom lip. "Tasty, Kitten." Then he spun, planted his right hand on Blake’s shoulder, knocking him back into a locker. “See you around,” he said, smirking.”
*my favorite*
“I was a total fail next to Ash, but Daemon said something about me wearing his clothes that sent blood rushing to every part of my body and I didn't care if I looked like a hunchback next to her.”
“Infuriated, I scrambled over him, even more furious when I saw the humored glint in his eyes. "God you tick me off."
"Well at least I got you--"
"Don't even finish that statement!”
“I love you, Katy. Always have. Always will.”
“A few seconds after he stepped out into the hallway and closed the door behind him, there was a fleshly smack and then Andrew yelling, “Ouch. What in the hell was that for?” “Your timing sucks on an epic level,” Daemon shot back.”
