by E.L. James (Goodreads Author)
Daunted by the singular
sexual tastes and dark secrets of the beautiful, tormented young
entrepreneur Christian Grey, Anastasia Steele has broken off their
relationship to start a new career with a Seattle publishing house. But
desire for Christian still dominates her every waking thought, and when
he proposes a new arrangement, Anastasia cannot resist. They rekindle
their searing sensual affair, and Anastasia learns more about the
harrowing past of her damaged, driven, and demanding Fifty Shades. While
Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront her
anger and envy of the women who came before her and make the most
important decision of her life. Erotic, sparkling and suspenseful, Fifty
Shades Darker is the irresistibly addictive second part of the Fifty
Shades trilogy.
How surprising is it that I actually liked this on a little bit?
First getting into it, I thought, OH NO!
I'm going to be just as annoyed as I was while reading the first book. Ana seemed as immature and annoying as ever and Christian was on his little controlling bossy kick with the 'eat now' stuff and she was complaining about him treating her like a kid...*shakes head*
And then there's the INNER GODDESS stuff! That crap just grates on my nerves! I just picture this scantily clad, heavily made-up bitch swaying and lounging around as provocatively as possible. She's basically Ana's inner slutmuffin (<--my sister's word). Then there's her subconscious, which appears periodically through the book, though I'm not sure why she bothers because Ana never listens to her.
All in all, the plot was pretty good. I got lost in the story, which I couldn't do at all in the first one. I'm happy for the change in Christian. I couldn't stand him before. He disgusted me, really. This time around we got to know him and his past better and see that he really does care for her. He uttered some really sweet things that I never thought would come from his mouth.
I think the 'kinky fuckery' will always make me a little uncomfortable. Especially, now that we are adding butt play. LOL I mean, to me, that's always going to be a one way street. The only time a butt plug will be acceptable in my future is when I'm giving birth because I don't want to crap myself...How embarrassing?! Anyway, yeah, AWKWARD.
One thing I'm not looking forward to in the next book is this whole JACK'S REVENGE thing. *shakes head* Can't anyone just admit that they are fucked up and just go get help instead of trying to sabotage people they think fucked them over? Ugh. So annoying.
